Today in Western Civilization class a friend of mine named Gianna had a shadow that seemed happy enough to be there as a shadow in Western Civ class. We started the class with a pop quiz, that consisted of 6 different questions that asked about the Papua New Guinea people. One of the questions on the test asked how British people saw them as when they first arrived, the answer was they saw them as not as intelligent or as evolved as them. The Papua New Guinea people saw them as their superiors and even carried them over streams and other bodies of water so as not to get their dainty feet wet. Another question was how Jared diamond saw them as, the answer was he saw them as intelligent and very creative people. He even said at one point that he could be dropped off in the middle of the forest and not know what to do at all, but if the Papua New Guinea people had that happen to them then they would be able to get a small shack built in a few h...

Today in Western Civilization class we learned about a person named Jared Diamond that was an author and a professor in UCLA. He travels all around the world to remote places to try and figure out why some human colonies such as England and France turned out the way they did and why some are still quite primitive (No machinery, not even steam power). I also learned that there is a place called Papua New Guinea that is home to a group of people that have been living the same way for about 40,000 years. I also learned that they have also developed their own language. Another thing that I have learned is that Jared Diamond is also a bird watcher, and has a much different opinion on the Papua New Guinea people then his ancestors had on the under developed group of people.

We also learned that we will have homework every night, although Mr. Schick gives homework every night he seems to be a nice teacher that is excited to teach myself and my class about Western Civ. I can without a doubt say that I am interested in learning about all the things that Western Civilization class has to offer. A few things that I hope Mr. Schick includes in his lesson plans are partner projects that let us interact with our fellow class mates, things that have us move around the class room so that we can get out of our seats, instead of just sitting at our desk the entire period, etc.. Doing things like those will take away a little bit of the tension in the classroom, this would also help students get to know their fellow classmates better. Also making jokes or other stupid silly things to lighten the mood like those will he...
